about Angelita
Angelita Berdiales is a Peruvian pianist, educator, and collaborator devoted to building meaningful musical experiences that connect people across cultures and generations. Her enthusiasm for fostering a sense of belonging leads to entrepreneurial ventures that celebrate her cultural identity as a Latin American woman.
Honoring Hispanic Cultures through Music and Voices of Latin America is a continuing concert initiative designed to strengthen the University of North Carolina-Greensboro student community by representing Latin American composers and expanding the canon, such projects were funded by EDIA and iBelong grants. Angelita is deeply committed to representation and inclusion, her research and creative projects highlight music by women and underrepresented composers. She has presented at the National Conference of Keyboard Pedagogy (NCKP), Early Music America, NCMTA conferences, and MTNA Collegiate Symposium.
Angelita has performed internationally throughout Europe, the United States, and Peru, appearing at festivals in Italy, Poland, Hungary, the Czech Republic, and across Latin America. A two-time First Prize winner of the National Conservatory of Music Concerto Competition in Peru, she also won the Jillian Prescott Competition, leading to her debut with the Southwest Florida Symphony Orchestra. She has been a finalist in the Osaka International Competition and a prizewinner in the Steinway Series Competition at University of South Florida.
Angelita serves as a Professor of Piano at Guilford College and faculty member at the Music Academy of North Carolina. She also collaborates with UNCG Ballet classes, UNCG instrumental studios performances, as well as Greensboro Youth Choruses. Her commitment to the Greensboro community is shown by serving as a Co-Chair of the Greensboro Music Teachers Association Festival since 2024.
Angelita has a Doctor of Musical Arts with a minor in Arts Administration from University of North Carolina-Greensboro, a Master of Music from University of South Florida, and a Bachelor of Music from Florida Gulf Coast University. Her primary teachers include Annie Jeng, Svetozar Ivanov, Michael Baron, and Carlota Bravo-Guerra.
Beyond music, Angelita finds inspiration in mindfulness practices, yoga, gardening, and dance, all of which nourish the same joy and rhythm she brings to her artistry.
